Charice the Journey Begins

So what's so special about this concert? It is Charice Pempengco's so-called first major solo concert. Initially, they were planning to stage it at the Araneta Coliseum, but due to time constraints the SMX Convention center was the more obvious choice for this special concert.

The SMX is a new concert/convention venue, so expect very good air conditioning and clean facilities. This is better than the quaint Folk Arts Theatre where new artists usually had their baptismal of fire. Charice will definitely enjoy her stage in the SMX. Also, she won't be indifferent if you compare this to the world class venues where she had performed with international artists like Celine Dion.

To make this a more memorable concert, Asia's Songbird "Regine Velasquez" will grace her show. Charice's appearance in Divas 4 Divas (US) is just a teaser. Finally, speculations and fan wars will be put to an end. A temporary ceasefire for these artists' loyal devotees.

There may be conflicts with these artists' schedule, but I'm sure that given their gift for music, these Divas can come up with a special duet. I'm crossing my fingers that they will perform And I'm Telling You with counterpoints of course, instead of the boring and usual When You Believe performances.

This concert will definitely banish all unfounded truths (irony) that Charice never openly declared her admiration for the Filipinos' beloved Songbird - Regine Velasquez. You still have more than a week, so for your tickets and seat arrangements just click the highlighted words. Watch Charice with the formidable Filipina Divas sharing one stage. Enjoy!

Regine's 18 Greatest Hits!

Regine's new album is a compilation of just some of her greatest hits. I believe that this is a birthday album present to her fans. It's nice to hear that they have digitally remastered songs that were recorded in the early 90s. So expect better sound quality of her earlier hits like Narito Ako, Urong Sulong, Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang, etc.

This album also included not so popular Regine songs like Maghihintay Ako Sa 'Yo and Kastilyong Buhangin. This is actually a good way to educate new Regine devouts. At least, they will be equipped with necessary Regine discography. Also, they will hear how Regine evolved as a singer thru her voice technique, timbre and style.

A Regine Greatest Hits album will not be complete without the movie theme songs she popularized. The album is just a teaser with her winning song in Ang Bagong Kampeon - In Your Eyes by George Benson. So it's safe to assume that Regine's dog George coined its name from George Benson and George Clooney- the Georges in Regine's life.

Of course the Greatest Hits album will not be Regine's if Belting Songs are not included. It was definitely nice to have On The Wings of Love and I Don't Want To Miss A Thing. These songs will continuously remind everyone that the Songbird is the Ultimate Belter in our country--possibly in the whole world.

I still feel that the release of this album is preposterous! Its goal is not to satiate Regine's fans, but the bank accounts of these recording companies. Nothing new... Nothing spectacular... So soo album layout and pictures. The only redeeming factor is Regine's Amazing Vocal Prowess!

AT Seventeen

I really love this beautiful arrangement made by Raul Mitra. This time he totally went out of the box and experimented with his sound. The theatrical/musicale influences should take a back seat for the meantime. I still prefer the recorded version since you can really have a MOMENT. Appreciating the instruments used and its classy sound. IT sounded global... International - not your usual OPM arrangement. More beautiful music Mr. Mitra.. Please!

Nakaka LOW KEY!!!

Most younger divas (Charice and Sarah Geronimo) have been using the same humor that Regine has in their concerts. Here's a video of Leader of the Band and Tell Me That You Love Me. She had to hit some notes to veer away from the album's low profile notes. Watch and ENJOY!

Rooftop Concert

The Beatles had a rooftop concert in January 30, 1969. People didn't expect it was their last concert together. In the local music scene, Regine is the only artist who took this kind of risk. It was staged at their house's rooftop in Bulacan. Here's her live performance of Mariah Carey's Butterfly and a duet with Cacai ( His Eye Is On The Sparrow). Have fun!

Low Key's Platinum

Finally! I had a feeling that the album turned platinum last year. They are just waiting for the right moment for the awarding. Congrats Songbird - go for DIAMOND!!!

Papa Don't Preach

David Cook's version of Mariah Carey's Always Be My Baby was a big hit. It was truly unexpected to have this divaish hit song transformed to a beautiful rock ballad. Regine's version of Madonna's Papa Don't Preach has the same effect. An 80's dance hit immortalized into a pop ballad. Listen and Enjoy!

Wish that this song will be included as a bonus track in her next album.

DIVAStation!!!

I'm wondering if we can have our own version of Divas Live? So instead of sulking and waiting for the impossible to actualize, I have the following performances uploaded. Happy Holidays! ENJOY!

You big disgrace
I've got the feeling and I'm willing tonight
Well I ain't nobody's angel
Credit is bad
So why dispute me and waste my time

We are beautiful no matter what they say
Yes, words won't bring us down
We are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring us down
Don't you bring me down today

Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused

If you need me, call me
No matter where you are

Ikaw ang pag-ibig
Sa araw at gabi
Ikaw ang pag-asang tanglaw sa dilim
Napapawi’t hirap at pighati

opm hits - divastation

You took my love for granted, why oh why
The show is over, say good-bye

I never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new, you'll feel it in my kiss

The secret I knew then
Will I ever have the chance again

Mmmmmm, give yourself to me
Mmmmmm, you hold the key

If the music's pumping it will give you new life
You're a superstar, yes, that's what you are, you know it

Sa kanyang kilos at galaw tayo ay naaaliw
Sa ating mga mata isa lamang siyang baliw
Ngunit kung tayo ay hahatulang sabay
Sa mata ng Maykapal, siya'y higit na banal

And I love you so...

People ask me how

How I've lived till now

I tell them I don't know

And I Love You So - Divastation

Charice Pempengco @ Eastwood City

Seeing Charice's Billboard made me realize that she's like a younger version of a veteran actress. Voila! Her face reminds me of Chanda Romero. She's being tagged as a world phenomenon. Oprah simply calls her the World's Most Talented Kid. A part of me gets confused and disoriented whenever i hear this phrase. How can a 15 or a 16 yr old be considered a KID?

Now, I can't help but notice Charice's fascination with hats. It's just soo 90's, reminiscent of the late Ten Ten Munoz and Regine in her younger years. The only fashion accessory missing are those overtly thick shoulder pads. She should stop using those hats especially in humid venues. Also, she should consider sporting other clothing labels. Snoopy is just a brand for kids and pre-teens. She must learn to evolve. I'm sure that she will---soon.

I'm still editing and will soon be uploading the videos. So for the meantime, I will just rant and rave.

Regine's Low Key Album

There has been soo much hype in RegineLandia about this 15th studio album. Being a worshipper, I got myself a copy. Regine's now under Universal Records and I can definitely see their support. The packaging is something new. One wouldn't miss seeing it in record bars. It's unusually longer than a dvd case. The cd is priced at Php 350. Not bad, since it has 2 cds. For videoke fanatics, the minus one is definitely a pre-Christmas treat from their beloved Songbird. Nice pictures and layout. This is my fave pix taken from her house inspired by the Korean telenovela Full House. It's just plain Serene Regine subconsciously promoting the Go Green campaign.

Note: Simply click the pictures to enlarge them. ENJOY!

After Covers 1 and Covers 2, Regine has covered 17 classics AGAIN which made me think of OPM's (Original Pilipino Music) future. The only original song is the bonus track, which is a collaboration with Jim Brickman - Christmas Is.
Ordinarily, artists would cover Christmas songs. Just ironic that Regine's Christmas album (Love Was Born on Christmas Day) is 80% original compositions. I'm disappointed that she has to cover Of All the Things ( reminds me of Lindsay Custodio's) and the ever famous Longer which was already a part of the Medley of Love Songs in R2K.

For a consistent platinum artist, why be scared of recording new songs? This is a themed album and Regine's concept is recording classic love songs with fresh arrangements. The special attraction is taming her vocal pyrotechnics. She must have realized the importance of just using the pristine timbre of her voice. It's very obvious that the arrangements veered away from those crescendos that are usually being used to give a song a climax/highlight of some sort.

This is an acoustic album but did not capitalize on the use of guitars alone. Good thing there's piano and other instruments that made this album sophisticated, well thought and inspired. Feel good music, something that you can play while on a cruise. Reminiscent of the many acoustic/laid back Filipino cover albums (Lea, Nina, MYMP and the list continues...).

The vocals would enlighten Regine Bashers that her voice can be tamed. That her voice alone with proper emotions and vocal dyamics can breathe new life to songs that most artists nowadays won't dare revive. Who would dare cover Leader of the Band and At Seventeen? Here's the track list for your convenience.

I'm used to Regine's belting voice that listening to this album made me realize that she has low notes as well. Not just those based on her back up vocals where she had to record in lower keys to harmonize. Low key was successful in showcasing her low notes in the 3rd octave. Regine's vocal range is a wide 4 octaves. Her lowest note is a B2 ( the note Ti in the 2nd octave). Most of her birit notes are those in the 5th octave in pure chest voice. This time i think her highest belted note using her chest voice is an E5 (Mi in the 5th octave). The higher notes were sang using her head voice (falsetto for male singers).

If my upload is succesful, then you can listen to her most hearfelt rendition in this album. She must have mustered all pain and heartaches (thought of Ariel Rivera) in order to bring out the needed emotion for the song - I'd Rather Leave While I'm In Love. Oh well, unseen universal songbird forces must have conspired. I'd rather let you buy the album to satiate your curiosity. For the meantime, here's a teaser of the song No Walls, No Ceilings, No Floors.

Thanks to Reigne Channel! I wonder if this album can replicate, if not outsell R2K ( Like become a Diamond Album perhaps?). IF necessary, I will have to add new insights on this album. ENJOY!

Btw, there's a special twist when you purchase this album. You're entitled to get a free poster (Limited). The catch is, there are 4 unique posters. Meaning, it's a marketing strategy/gimmick by Universal Records to have an instant demand for this album. I can understand this strategy. I just find it preposterous when they printed out 3 out of 4 pictures in the album layout as posters. There's just one unique poster that is rare. There's recession almost everywhere, as a token of appreciation to Regine's loyal friends, posters should just be given away. Small freebies like posters, mean a lot to die hard, to die for Songbird worshippers. I just can't imagine a student who's a fanatic saving and splurging Php 1400 just to complete the posters. I don't mind spending. I just wanna make sure it'll be my money's worth. Every single cent of it.REGINE Is REGINE: No IFs & Buts!!! PEACE! Christmas Is -- All About Giving and Sharing...

Asia Pacific Singing Festival 1989

Still trying to carve a niche of her own, Regine decided to join an international singing contest in Hongkong. The pressure's on her since the previous winners were Filipinos (Ivy Violan and Dulce).

Here's a clip of the Asia Pacific Singing Festival 1988.

Usually, it's a proven formula that for an artist to be recognized, he or she must win in a singing contest. Regine's victory in Bagong Kampeon wasn't enough to make her a star. Joining an international contest might attract more attention and respect from her hard to please Filipino audience. Here's her journey in Hongkong. A petite, lanky lass covered with 2 inch paddings. Enjoy!

Something's not right. Try this other video which has the right key. The belted high notes sounded more realistic (not chipmunkish).

The victory in Hongkong paved the way for most people in the industry in naming her THE Asia's Songbird...

Regine @ 16 Wouldn't Beg For Water

Gmdeleon's such a blessing to Regine's followers and friends. Another rare live performance of Sheena Easton's famous song (aside from Almost Over You). She performed this in Ariel Ureta's tv show - Stop, Look & Listen.

Regine @ 16 Singing Overjoyed

Thanks to gmdeleon's uploads (Regine's Love Me Again and Greatest Love of All). Here's another rare performance of a Stevie Wonder hit song. This is definitely a remarkable copy since it's from an audiotape.

Regine's timbre @ 16 was still teeny bopperish. Lacking in texture and depth. What's admirable was her vocal control. Enjoy!
