Regine's Low Key Album Invades Asia

Finally, the long wait is over. Regine's Low Key album is available in Asia. This will definitely revive Regine's career in Asia. Remember that the Asia's Songbird, is the Only Filipino artist who was successful in releasing 3 asian albums. This is truly good news especially to Asian fans of Regine who are deprived of her presence in the region. The album cover has a different artwork and song sequence. Low Key is now released in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and Thailand! Grab a copy Now.

Lady Gaga & Regine's Most Requested

I really don't want to miss on seeing these shows. They say Manila is a 3rd World Country but Big time Foreign Artists frequently visit us. This is everyone's chance to witness Lady Gaga's eccentricities. Be it in her fashion statement or dance moves. I don't mind her lipsynching, as long as she rocks Manila with her outlandish clothes and stage gimmickries. Lady Gaga Live in Manila will be on August 11 at the Araneta Coliseum (Click to View Seats & Prices).

Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez will have a two-night show on Aug. 1 & 8 at the new Sky Dome SM North Edsa. It's all about her Most Requested songs. Also, this will be her venue to promote some songs from her Low Key Album. Regine's special guest will be Eva Castillo, her most feared rival in amateur singing contests. So expect a battle of the lungs medley from these belters.

Mother's Day Contest - She's Always A Woman to Me

Regine recorded this Billy Joel song - She's Always a Woman to Me as a way to thank her mom - Mommy V. This song is included in her Low Key Album which is still gaining popularity and more platinum awards. I wonder if the album has reached triple platinum already.

I really adore Regine's version, since it has once again, showcased her sweet & pristine voice. Most of all, it showed her whistling skill, veering from her famous belting prowess. ,I have uploaded a live performance of this song, in one of her Low Key Mall tours.

Now, I'm thinking of how to thank our Mothers or people we know who have assumed motherly roles. I can only think of sharing this legit Mother's Day contest by Pastry kicks.

Who wants to follow Barbie's timeless footsteps. Every girl, I suppose. Who ever thought that this impossible dream will one day materialize with the help of shoe connoisseurs Angela and Vanessa Simmons and their love for pastries. Even at 25, I can be all the Barbie that I want to be with their youthful Pastry Shoes collection. You might want to check them out at www.pastrykicks.com and live the dream.

With Mother’s day right around the corner, Vanessa and Angela Simmons want to give thanks to all the wonderful moms around the world.

Write a poem , send it to contest@pastrykicks.com and let us know What Makes your Mom the best Mother in the world?

AND WIN PASTRY’S OF YOUR CHOICE:

Winner will be announced on friday at 8pm EST and posted on the site. For contest details please check this link:

Regine's 18 Greatest Hits!

Regine's new album is a compilation of just some of her greatest hits. I believe that this is a birthday album present to her fans. It's nice to hear that they have digitally remastered songs that were recorded in the early 90s. So expect better sound quality of her earlier hits like Narito Ako, Urong Sulong, Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang, etc.

This album also included not so popular Regine songs like Maghihintay Ako Sa 'Yo and Kastilyong Buhangin. This is actually a good way to educate new Regine devouts. At least, they will be equipped with necessary Regine discography. Also, they will hear how Regine evolved as a singer thru her voice technique, timbre and style.

A Regine Greatest Hits album will not be complete without the movie theme songs she popularized. The album is just a teaser with her winning song in Ang Bagong Kampeon - In Your Eyes by George Benson. So it's safe to assume that Regine's dog George coined its name from George Benson and George Clooney- the Georges in Regine's life.

Of course the Greatest Hits album will not be Regine's if Belting Songs are not included. It was definitely nice to have On The Wings of Love and I Don't Want To Miss A Thing. These songs will continuously remind everyone that the Songbird is the Ultimate Belter in our country--possibly in the whole world.

I still feel that the release of this album is preposterous! Its goal is not to satiate Regine's fans, but the bank accounts of these recording companies. Nothing new... Nothing spectacular... So soo album layout and pictures. The only redeeming factor is Regine's Amazing Vocal Prowess!

I Will Survive with Marvin Agustin & Nelson Canlas

This medley existed for more than a decade already (first heard in RETRO concert). I still prefer the arrangement of of Mon Faustino as compared to David Foster's! Regine dancing with Marvin Agustin. After the show, Regine didn't show any exhaustion. She immediately granted an interview first with GMA's Nelson Canlas. After the interviews (ABS CBN) she signed cds.

Low Key AT SEVENTEEN New Eastwood Mall (3.13.09)

One of my consolations, Regine singing one of my favorite tracks in her LOW KEY album. It must be the Ugly Duckling Syndrome that I can empathize with easily. ENJOY!

I learned the truth at seventeen
That love was meant for beauty queens
And high school girls with clear skinned smiles
Who married young and then retired.
The valentines I never knew
The Friday night charades of youth
Were spent on one more beautiful
At seventeen I learned the truth.
And those of us with ravaged faces
Lacking in the social graces
Desperately remained at home
Inventing lovers on the phone
Who called to say come dance with me
and murmured vague obscenities
It isn't all it seems
At seventeen.
A brown eyed girl in hand me downs
Whose name I never could pronounce
said, Pity please the ones who serve
They only get what they deserve.
The rich relationed hometown queen
Married into what she needs
A guarantee of company
And haven for the elderly.
Remember those who win the game
Lose the love they sought to gain
Indebentures of quality
And dubious integrity.
Their small town eyes will gape at you
in dull surprise when payment due
Exceeds accounts received
At seventeen.
To those of us who know the pain
Of valentines that never came,
And those whose names were never called
When choosing sides for basketball.
It was long ago and far away
The world was younger than today
And dreams were all they gave for free
To ugly duckling girls like me.
We all play the game and when we dare
To cheat ourselves at solitaire
Inventing lovers on the phone
Repenting other lives unknown
That call and say, come dance with me
and murmur vague obscenities
At ugly girls like me
At seventeen

Low Key Clouds @ The New Eastwood Mall (3.13.09)

The venue's pretty ugly. Ugly because of the on-going construction of the fountain. Pretty coz it's somewhat a mini-replica of Greenbelt 3. I just realized that the production didn't match the Songbird's talent. This was just a disappointing scenario to see and hear Regine relying on minus one/multiplex. Are these signs of global economic slowdown? The redeeming factors were the sound system that was three times better than the one in Central Plaza where The Dawn was playing. Also, Regine's exemplary vocals. Here is Regine's not so grand entrance since she had to to walk from the basement parking in stilletos. It just showed her patience and professionalism. Enjoy Rah Band's hit song Clouds Across The Moon in stereo recording!

Disgraced REGINE Fans @ the LOW KEY Mall Tour in the New Eastwood Mall

How far will you go for your Idol? I have been thinking lately, especially when I've stumbled upon these videos of disgraced/disgraceful Regine fans. At first, I just find the videos funny but looking back, the incident presented a serious social concern. Regine is a diva with iconic and legendary status. However, being in a third world nation, we just cannot avoid freeloaders. Some Regine fans have developed this weird obsession of collecting her signatures and most importantly, pictures with her to be used in various social bookmarking sites.

I guess first or third world nations will always have freeloaders. There will be fans who will develop a stalker syndrome. There will be fans who will collect their idol's videos, mp3s, etc and sell them- impervious of the repercussions of the ANTI PIRACY law of their country. There will be fans who will find happiness with their collections and would claim that they have the BEST collections - not even pausing for a moment of reflection that they got their collections from other serious collectors.

Regine brings out the best and the worst in her fans. Just like in these videos, the fans did not consider the fact that other people spent their money just to get VIP seats. They were soo consumed seeing their idol that they were insensitive and lacked good moral judgment. They thought they can always get away with their usual third world glib tongues and cheerful dispositions. In life, Rules are necessary to promote order and a balanced sense of fairness. There are just no shortcuts. You have to sweat it out. Regine relied on her talent and hardwork. She did not become famous overnight!

Here are the links of the famous/infamous videos:

P.S. - The videos of her performances will uploaded as soon as possible.

Regine's Low Key @ The New Eastwood Mall (3.13.09)

The open park of the New Eastwood Mall was actually renovated to provide room for the stage as you will see on the video below. The video wall looks great in day time. At night time, it failed to replicate the intended look of Las Vegas or Macau. The video wall is soo pixilated in the dark. When Regine appeared in it, a number of fans commented "White Lady". Is it due to the video camera that they used? It's possible.

Here are the videos before the show and see how the people start to fill the venue. Enjoy!

Clouds Across The Moon

"Good evening. This is the intergalactic operator. Can I help you?"
"Yes. I'm trying to reach flight commander P.R. Johnson, on Mars, flight 2-4-7"
"Very well, hold on please [beeping] you're through!"
"Thank you operator!"

"I'm sorry to interrupt your conversation, but we are
experiencing violent storm conditions in the asteriod belt at this
time. We may lose this valuable deep space communication link.
Please, be as brief as possible.
Thank you."

or it's...or it's..."Hello?" "Hello operator?"
" Yes, we've lost the connection! Could you try again please?"
-"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid we've lost contact with Mars 2-4-7
at this time."

"Ok. Thank you very much...
I'll...I'll try again next year...next year...next year...next year..."

I wonder how Regine would have sounded if she had included these lyrics from the original version by Rah Band. It would have been very interesting. The sound is soo Wave 89.1 and Crossover 88.3.

Here's the music video of the original version by Rah Band. It's so hilarious. Sooo 80s!!! Enjoy!!!

AT Seventeen

I really love this beautiful arrangement made by Raul Mitra. This time he totally went out of the box and experimented with his sound. The theatrical/musicale influences should take a back seat for the meantime. I still prefer the recorded version since you can really have a MOMENT. Appreciating the instruments used and its classy sound. IT sounded global... International - not your usual OPM arrangement. More beautiful music Mr. Mitra.. Please!

Nakaka LOW KEY!!!

Most younger divas (Charice and Sarah Geronimo) have been using the same humor that Regine has in their concerts. Here's a video of Leader of the Band and Tell Me That You Love Me. She had to hit some notes to veer away from the album's low profile notes. Watch and ENJOY!

Rooftop Concert

The Beatles had a rooftop concert in January 30, 1969. People didn't expect it was their last concert together. In the local music scene, Regine is the only artist who took this kind of risk. It was staged at their house's rooftop in Bulacan. Here's her live performance of Mariah Carey's Butterfly and a duet with Cacai ( His Eye Is On The Sparrow). Have fun!

Low Key's Platinum

Finally! I had a feeling that the album turned platinum last year. They are just waiting for the right moment for the awarding. Congrats Songbird - go for DIAMOND!!!

Papa Don't Preach

David Cook's version of Mariah Carey's Always Be My Baby was a big hit. It was truly unexpected to have this divaish hit song transformed to a beautiful rock ballad. Regine's version of Madonna's Papa Don't Preach has the same effect. An 80's dance hit immortalized into a pop ballad. Listen and Enjoy!

Wish that this song will be included as a bonus track in her next album.

Low Key Glorietta in High Notes

When you set your expectations low, you'll never regret. At least, that's my belief lately. It's scary at first seeing Glorietta lacking the usual Regine worshippers. But as the show time nears, voila! - the venue's filled. Maybe we're known for the Filipino time as evident in most of Regine's shows. It's never too late to change and kudos to Glorietta's Events management team for being on time. The humongous Swatch reminded them very well that time is indeed money.

This will be a series of entries since the videos recorded are in .MOV files. Converting the files is a tedious task. For this entry, I'll have a video of her most applauded performance. We all know that the album has a laid back theme. Good thing they played with the repertoire and didn't just stick with the album tracks. If they did, Regine could have lulled us to sleep.

Regine sang 11 songs from the album's 18 tracks. A very generous performance. This version's sang definitely in HIGH notes. Enjoy!

Since, not everyone has broadband service - or a not so reliable broadband service. I've made some mp3s for easy access and listening pleasure. Enjoy!

Regine's Pre-loaded MP3 & MP4 Players

Finally the Philippine music industry is moving forward. It's definitely a breath of fresh air ( ala Simon Cowell) to see that the music industry is evolving. As the country's top diva, Regine is obviously the best choice as the marketable artist (multimedia wise)- the singer who can sell mp3 and mp4 players. Remember the proliferation of the now popular WOW Magic Sing was first endorsed by her.

The MP3 Player costs Php 950 and the MP4 Player at Php 1800. The players are pre-loaded with songs from her 7 albums. For your easy reference, please refer below.

18 tracks

10 tracks

8 tracks

11 tracks

13 tracks

5 tracks

5 tracks

You really have to check the MP4 player and see the videos loaded. These are truly Regine Must Haves especially to serious collectors. If you have extra moolah then splurge for the love of our beloved Songbird! One will surely learn to appreciate Regine's transitions and vocal evolutions. It's nice to support these so-called risks by the record companies and other industries involved. We're quite near the digital downloads being practiced in US. This is just the beginning. Of course, the music industry MUST still take risks in promoting Original Pilipino Music. We can never totally veer away from covering beautiful classic songs, but we can start producing more original music. Something that Filipinos can be proud of as their own.

Sirenspeaks @ Chico & Delamar's The Morning Rush

RX 93.1's The Morning Rush never fails to entertain me. Chico and Delamar's formidable tandem is here to stay for good. I would still like to listen to them even when they're in their twilight years. They have this segment Chico and Delamar's Top 10 and their topic on January 8 was all about extinct brands and products. I'm usually the passive listener. I'm too stubborn in sharing my thoughts. There's something special on this particular day. I got soo tired of the entries announced. Either they're too young or can't follow simple rules. Well, my effort paid off. My entry was no. 1

Here's the Winning Extinct Brand/Product: HORLICKS

In immortalizing this momentous event, please refer to the audio file.
