Maalaala Mo Kaya - O Holy Night?

It's nice to look back on what Regine has done in the past years. As my search continues for old performances, I found these audio files for your listening pleasure.

Needs are created by the media in order to entice buyers into purchasing more for the current year than the previous year. No one's to be disappointed at Christmas, after all. There's a blatant manipulation to the viewing public. And who can bring themselves to crush the psyche of anyone by not giving them all they want?

The end result of all of this is "HAPPINESS." The receivers (viewers) of the presents are happy and the merchandisers (concert producers) are happy. The media people are happy and the credit card people are happy. Everything and Everyone is HAPPY during Christmas.

I got this leakage of the concert's repertoire. Thanks to Lolo MAO!! ENJOY!!!

Regine Whistles @ The New Eastwood Mall (11.22.08)

As promised, here are the audio files for your listening pleasure. Amazing! They're in good quality. The guards were able to tame us, but the Songbird's legion of extra ordinarily innovative devouts persisted--- Alas, triumphed! With no further introduction...

I can't stop smiling hearing this......

Cant Smile Without You Regine Eastwood Mall.mp3 - Regine Velasquez

A number of people aren't familiar with the Songbird's Whistling talent. So Regine playfully experimented on this talent.

Whistle Regine Eastwood Mall.mp3 - Regine Velasquez

Regine has always been grateful having wonderful and supportive parents. She can't thank them enough for the gift of music. She can only show them her sincere appreciation through this song... More than words can say. She might as well do it in this manner -- You'll Never Know it must be Mommy V's and Mang Gerry's fave song.

Youll Never Know Regine Eastwood Mall.mp3 - Regine Velasquez

Taking advantage of the situation, Regine promoted her new album - LOW KEY. She just focused on the album's selling point - 17 beautifully arranged (FRESH) love songs and a Christmas song by Jim Brickman. A good Christmas gift for one's listening and singing indulgence, since it comes with a Minus One. A free poster... What more can you ask for??? So here's the carrier single ---

Tell Me That You Love Me Regine Eastwood Mall.mp3 - Regine Velasquez

It's just unfortunate that the It Might Be You recording was corrupted. This song is rarely performed by Regine. To think that it's the Patti Austin version. How Sad... really sad. I just hope that within this week, somebody will share his or her vid or audio file. PLEASE!!!

My Only Hope, I'm still waiting for the upload... I'll be waiting...

*UPDATE*

I know now, You're my only HOPE.
Thanks danezero8!

Ending the show in a HIGH Note, the Songbird runs away...

Thanks to Danezero8 for this rare video. Please understand that the security personnels were given strict orders - decimate all Regine video fanatics. Here's the audio format (It's complete =)). ENJOY!

Regine At the New Eastwood Mall (Nov. 22, 2008)

The New Eastwood Mall had its soft opening last week. To show that this mall is a formidable one, they had invited Regine to perform. The Velasquez family's almost complete (except for the brother) including George's yaya and the family driver. It's just nice to see that with the affluence they have now, they remain humble. Usually nouveau riche families would really flaunt their newly acquired status in life.

Note: Simply click the pictures to enlarge them. ENJOY!

The Eastwood Mall is patterned after Greenbelt 4, The Podium, Rockwell and the Shangrila Mall. Since its new, I really appreciate the a/c. It's half finished and the mall, I believe was built to replace the Old Eastwood mall. I heard the 4th floor of that mall will be converted as a call center. Gosh, we're plagued with BPOs. They're like mushrooms. I wonder what will happen once Obama takes over next year.

Enough of the mall and useless information. Here are the videos for your viewing and listening pleasure. For the love of our Songbird... Enjoy!

I reach for you. You seem so near... Yet so far...

Someone to hold, someone to cry...

Para akong isang sirang ulo, hilo at lito

Sana Maulit Muli sheesh just when i thought everything's ok.. Disaster! Is this a premonition???

I would have made a scene when the guards kept on reminding us that we're on strike 2. Meaning, they'd either confiscate or ask us to delete the recorded performances. HINDEE!!! (MAGKAKAMATAYAN TAYO!) (ARAY>> ARAY BITAWAN NYO AKO! NASASAKTAN AKO!) I just don't get it. I'm grateful that Eastwood City (Mega World Corp.) has been continuously hiring Regine's services (referring to Aria). A free concert is devoid of any limitations. The only exception is, if your in a venue wherein Rules are strictly promulgated. This isn't a private performance that would jeopardize their marketing efforts. They could have informed the audience before the show started or should have just made this a private engagement. I saw an ABS-CBN camera crew, so I was thinking that they'd probably use their coverage any time soon -- evening news?

Not to be affected by this unfortunate incident. I used plan B - record Regine's performance in audio format. This, I believe, would still satiate any Regine devout's craving for her music, especially LIVE performances. Here are some audio files for your listening pleasure. ENJOY!

* Please wait for the audio files to be uploaded *

All good things must come to an end... Bye Songbird. See you next weeK!

Regine's Low Key Album

There has been soo much hype in RegineLandia about this 15th studio album. Being a worshipper, I got myself a copy. Regine's now under Universal Records and I can definitely see their support. The packaging is something new. One wouldn't miss seeing it in record bars. It's unusually longer than a dvd case. The cd is priced at Php 350. Not bad, since it has 2 cds. For videoke fanatics, the minus one is definitely a pre-Christmas treat from their beloved Songbird. Nice pictures and layout. This is my fave pix taken from her house inspired by the Korean telenovela Full House. It's just plain Serene Regine subconsciously promoting the Go Green campaign.

Note: Simply click the pictures to enlarge them. ENJOY!

After Covers 1 and Covers 2, Regine has covered 17 classics AGAIN which made me think of OPM's (Original Pilipino Music) future. The only original song is the bonus track, which is a collaboration with Jim Brickman - Christmas Is.
Ordinarily, artists would cover Christmas songs. Just ironic that Regine's Christmas album (Love Was Born on Christmas Day) is 80% original compositions. I'm disappointed that she has to cover Of All the Things ( reminds me of Lindsay Custodio's) and the ever famous Longer which was already a part of the Medley of Love Songs in R2K.

For a consistent platinum artist, why be scared of recording new songs? This is a themed album and Regine's concept is recording classic love songs with fresh arrangements. The special attraction is taming her vocal pyrotechnics. She must have realized the importance of just using the pristine timbre of her voice. It's very obvious that the arrangements veered away from those crescendos that are usually being used to give a song a climax/highlight of some sort.

This is an acoustic album but did not capitalize on the use of guitars alone. Good thing there's piano and other instruments that made this album sophisticated, well thought and inspired. Feel good music, something that you can play while on a cruise. Reminiscent of the many acoustic/laid back Filipino cover albums (Lea, Nina, MYMP and the list continues...).

The vocals would enlighten Regine Bashers that her voice can be tamed. That her voice alone with proper emotions and vocal dyamics can breathe new life to songs that most artists nowadays won't dare revive. Who would dare cover Leader of the Band and At Seventeen? Here's the track list for your convenience.

I'm used to Regine's belting voice that listening to this album made me realize that she has low notes as well. Not just those based on her back up vocals where she had to record in lower keys to harmonize. Low key was successful in showcasing her low notes in the 3rd octave. Regine's vocal range is a wide 4 octaves. Her lowest note is a B2 ( the note Ti in the 2nd octave). Most of her birit notes are those in the 5th octave in pure chest voice. This time i think her highest belted note using her chest voice is an E5 (Mi in the 5th octave). The higher notes were sang using her head voice (falsetto for male singers).

If my upload is succesful, then you can listen to her most hearfelt rendition in this album. She must have mustered all pain and heartaches (thought of Ariel Rivera) in order to bring out the needed emotion for the song - I'd Rather Leave While I'm In Love. Oh well, unseen universal songbird forces must have conspired. I'd rather let you buy the album to satiate your curiosity. For the meantime, here's a teaser of the song No Walls, No Ceilings, No Floors.

Thanks to Reigne Channel! I wonder if this album can replicate, if not outsell R2K ( Like become a Diamond Album perhaps?). IF necessary, I will have to add new insights on this album. ENJOY!

Btw, there's a special twist when you purchase this album. You're entitled to get a free poster (Limited). The catch is, there are 4 unique posters. Meaning, it's a marketing strategy/gimmick by Universal Records to have an instant demand for this album. I can understand this strategy. I just find it preposterous when they printed out 3 out of 4 pictures in the album layout as posters. There's just one unique poster that is rare. There's recession almost everywhere, as a token of appreciation to Regine's loyal friends, posters should just be given away. Small freebies like posters, mean a lot to die hard, to die for Songbird worshippers. I just can't imagine a student who's a fanatic saving and splurging Php 1400 just to complete the posters. I don't mind spending. I just wanna make sure it'll be my money's worth. Every single cent of it.REGINE Is REGINE: No IFs & Buts!!! PEACE! Christmas Is -- All About Giving and Sharing...

Asia Pacific Singing Festival 1989

Still trying to carve a niche of her own, Regine decided to join an international singing contest in Hongkong. The pressure's on her since the previous winners were Filipinos (Ivy Violan and Dulce).

Here's a clip of the Asia Pacific Singing Festival 1988.

Usually, it's a proven formula that for an artist to be recognized, he or she must win in a singing contest. Regine's victory in Bagong Kampeon wasn't enough to make her a star. Joining an international contest might attract more attention and respect from her hard to please Filipino audience. Here's her journey in Hongkong. A petite, lanky lass covered with 2 inch paddings. Enjoy!

Something's not right. Try this other video which has the right key. The belted high notes sounded more realistic (not chipmunkish).

The victory in Hongkong paved the way for most people in the industry in naming her THE Asia's Songbird...

Regine @ 16 Wouldn't Beg For Water

Gmdeleon's such a blessing to Regine's followers and friends. Another rare live performance of Sheena Easton's famous song (aside from Almost Over You). She performed this in Ariel Ureta's tv show - Stop, Look & Listen.

Regine @ 16 Singing Overjoyed

Thanks to gmdeleon's uploads (Regine's Love Me Again and Greatest Love of All). Here's another rare performance of a Stevie Wonder hit song. This is definitely a remarkable copy since it's from an audiotape.

Regine's timbre @ 16 was still teeny bopperish. Lacking in texture and depth. What's admirable was her vocal control. Enjoy!

Regine Velasquez' Transformation

Chona Velasquez impressed the Filipino audience and judges with her vocal prowess in a local televised singing competition Ang Bagong Kampeon. She was the youngest contestant at 14, who entered the senior division. She was undefeated for eight straight weeks and became the first grand champion of the show.

She won a recording contract with Octoarts and recorded her first single "Love Me Again" and used Chona Velasquez as her screen name. I guess, her promdi and unsophisticated name didn't help her launch her singing career. It was a flop. She did the usual promo in variety shows. She frequented The Penthouse Live. The show had Martin Nievera, Pops Fernandez , Nanette Inventor, etc as the main host and hostesses. Here's a video clip of Chona singing her first single.

Ronnie Henares who's the show's producer noticed her talent and potential in becoming a star, offered to represent her as her manager. He then convinced Chona to use a more sophisticated name - Regine. Which was taken from her real name Regina Encarnacion Velasquez.

Regine had to re-introduce herself to the public. At 17, she definitely showed the viewing public with what her pipes are made of. This was her first major concert At Seventeen produced by Kuh Ledesma.
